About Maudeen
She trained at California State University in San Jose and has practiced as a counselor since 1990. Her early work included supporting developmentally disabled children and their parents. She also served as a bereavement coordinator for a hospice, offering counseling to bereaved children, individuals, and groups.
Over three decades she has supported people facing depression, post-traumatic stress, anxiety, and grief. She combines methods from different therapies and uses what she finds helpful in practice. She values eye movement desensitization and reprocessing for PTSD and a client-centered stance that emphasizes strengths and choice.
Maudeen often encourages journaling and offers practical homework to increase self-understanding and communication skills. She draws on life experience as a long-distance caregiver and on a personal commitment to consistent self-care for caregivers. She also incorporates spiritual practices such as meditation and yoga when they fit a person’s beliefs.
After closing a counseling office in 2018 and writing a book, she is building an online coaching practice. She describes her role as a reflective mirror who helps people notice what matters and choose paths that match their goals.
